The Time has come

The time is slowly arriving for the students to say Goodbye and for New Learners to arrive, It was a wonderful year, we learned a lot, cried a lot and worked a lot and Now the Time has come to reap the rewards, so i am making this post a tribute to the student before Graduation day on 20/01/2012.

I will start with my First Group
Johan Wessels, Arno Smith, Elani Smith, SanetHowe and Morne Wilken.
We had lots of fun together, Arno kept us Entertained, Sant Kept us on the Edge of our seats, Johan brought spunk, Morne made us wonder and Elani was all smiles

What can I say there was so much fun and laughter with this Group maybe is because it was all Girls and trust me this is the most Organized Group that I worked with, everything was always done on time, shows you that if you strike a woman you strike a rock
As you can see a picture of me with a telescope that night I was giving a class on Astronomy and it was fun and hilarious, because a dove flea past and it was in the middle of the night and Karen thought that it was a shooting star and i corrected her by telling her it was a dove and everybody burst out laughing because she said it with such Excitement. I will never forget you ladies you were like my sisters and I will Enjoy playing the Guidance counselor and having our girl talk. Karen you kemp us Grounded, sulize you made us thirst for knowledge and be good at what we do because that is what you represented, Moira You werte the Go- Getter and always made sure thing were smooth and perfect, Zanderi you made us see that anything is possible if you believe. Nature Guides in action

That is one of my students Laure in action, during a drive with Guests and she is busy Explaining to guests how we control Ticks in the bush using spray plates that animals step on and it releases amipor on the fur of animals and kills the ticks.We make sure the method works by enclosing water holes with Thorny bushes like Sickle bush and leaving an open space where they can walk through and get sprayed.

Me and Matilda had A Special thing

Me and Matilda have a special relationship even when i had no food to offer she come and nibble on my ear and guest loved her because she was such a sweet heart and loved to be fed, she had the most beautiful lashes i had ever seen and I envied her like you would not believe. When she first came to the center she was small and was afraid of people, but the Milk trick worked because she consumed Atleast 12 liters a day. She will always be my angel LOL!!!

Remembering the Good Old days

These Chitas were so sweet and Aggressive residents of the Wildlife center, they found them in the wild and believe their mother was killed by lions and they eventually got older and we had to release them< Chitas are becoming scarce in the Wild due to the fact that farmers of Game shoot them because they kill Expensive Antelope such as Sables and Roan. The cheetah is the most primitive of all cats, evolving approximately 18 million years ago.

Appearance:

The cheetah has a tall, slim, long-legged build. It has a yellowish-brown coat with darkbrown spots and a long white-tipped tail. The cheetah's spots help to camouflage it in its environment.

Special Characteristics:

The cheetah has no natural enemies. The cheetah's paws have only semi-retractable claws, the only of its type amongst the species of cat, and offer the cat extra grip in its high-speed pursuits.

Speed :

A fully grown cheetah can reach speeds in excess of 60 mph.
Food:

The cheetah's favourite prey is the gazelle. It also preys on the impala and the antelope, and other grazing animals.

Cheetah are usually carnivores although they might sometimes might eat fruit like watermelon. The medium size animals they eat include:antelope, fawns, gazelle, deer,etc. The smaller animals they eat are, rabbitts, birds, hares, frogs, etc. As I said before they are known to eat fruit like watermelon. Also, their diet includes lizards and eggs.
Habitat
Cheetahs like to live in the open area. Because of their liking for that, they usually are found in the grasslands, desert-like plains, savannahs, and like areas that have tall grass. These are the reasons because they usually are found in some places in Africa. Before, they were found in some parts of India and all over Africa, but now only maybe 20-30% of Africa. It hunts mainly by day. It follows its prey from a distance. It selects old, injured or young animals whose speed will be impaired.The cheetah can be found in open grassland and nearby forests in all parts of Africa, the Middle East, and south-central Asia.
Life Span:

The cheetah can live anywhere from 10-15 years in the wild.

Future of the Cheetah:

The cheetah is an endangered species. Its habitat is being destroyed by humans and there is also the problem of poachers. Zoos and federal parks provide many cheetahs with a haven where the survival of its species can be assured. Governmental laws have also been implemented to protect the cheetah.

Distribution:
Cheetahs are mostly found in South and East Africa, the Middle East, and Southern Asia.
Related Species:

There are 5 subspecies of cheetah in the genus Acinonyx: four in Africa and one in Iran. The endangered subspecies, Acinonyx jubatus venatiecus lives in Asia.

Computer Room( Resource center)

I have enjoyed taking care of the computer room and I must say it is a very hectic, dealing with students leaving their files papers and even valuable things, stressing over writing test and me playing their Mother was not easy but it was a lesson learned take note that managing students is not easy.

My prime responsibilty was to make sure
*The place is neat and clean
* invigilate students when they write exams
* technical difficulties faced using computers

but I ended up doing so much more.Lets see what 2012 has in store for us, hopefully good things

February my first sites guide arrived in class and i was just running around trying to make sure everything goes in order. I could see from the look in their eyes they were nervous

Gentle Giants

It was an amazing feeling and alarming experience to around this gentle giants, they were amazing because they did various tricks, the was one amazing elephant that can actual sit like a dog. Lucky for these animals they do not suffer because am sure if you watch National Geographic, you have seen that there have reports of elephants attacking humans due to PMS which is highly unusual but they say is due to the fact that a years ago places in Zimbabwe there were a lot of killing of these creatures and the little ones left behind who saw killings of their parents being killed have engraved this in their minds because elephants do have good memories, so that's why they attack humans. But the ones we saw were just big sweet.

Heritage day

Heritage day is very important because its a day where we as people celebrate who we are and where we come from. this day is a day that acknowledges what was done in the past and how it affects our future. Our heritage is somrthing that gives us a sense of place in the society wether it can be in our families, culture , beliefs, groups,a place, habitat or archeological site. So use this day wisely don't use it as just a day to have fun but a day to learn and be taught.

I have been so blessed because the job that i do gives me oppertunities to do alot of great things and that is the fact that i got a chance to realease the Black Breasted snake Eagle it was at sondela wildlife centre and what hapend to it is that it got poisend cause it it ate a dead poisend rat so it had full recovered and it was ready to be released.

This year we did not do very well academic wise, so i think its time asked ourselves the question is OBE working for us or not? judging by our poor peformace i would say NO! if OBEdid not work for America and other European contries i dont see how it will wok for us i think it would be better to go back to our old system cause it worked very well and i dont think OBE is help to the Education system

I am sure we all know how long we waited for this momemt to come and now its finally here but we it make all of our hopes and dreams come true all will we look on while others enjoy this moment, hopefully most of us benefit including myself because my job will require me to teach all the tourists that come here about culture and heritage so it is a big responsibility and a great honour. Day 3 of Limpopo Tour

This furnace was used for mining at Eersteling (which means "first born")mine in the late 1800s and was the first place which gold was dicovered and the one at top on the rihgt is the camelthorn tree which is planted at the Moordrift monument but now its old and no longer has leaves pods or flowers, the middle small picture is us at the Moordrift monument, which was build to honour the women and children who were brutaly murdered in the area,this aso used to be a place where mail coaches stoped to rest and give water to their horses and .From the right at the bottom is the picture of Knotts camp and the amazing view we had, i totaly enjoyed staying there and i hope to go back one day.over all i enjoyed the trip and it was a great learning experience

Day 2 of Limpopo Tour

From the right its me prepering myself for the picture,we were leaving Warriors camp site which had an amazing view and enjoyed staying there and i hope to come back some day. As you can see in the centre what i am taking about when i say an amazing view.In the left is picture taken when we were heading to Makhado(louis Trichardt) and the tunnels depicts gods greatness and is the place that Louis Trichardt who was a voortrekker leader climbed down fro the moutain with his people and cattle for 3 months and i must add that it is said that his wife was the one who came up with the idea and apperantley they tied rope on themselves, their cattle and on the tree's to prevent them from faling to their death that's why they say in most cases behind every successful man there is a beautiful woman and i might add smart too and i include myself on that list and i know what you thinking "very funny".Overall it was agreat experiance i enjoyed myself despitethe hiccups along the way.

Limpopo tour day 1

These were the scenic places we saw. That little shop you see is in haenertsburg and when you look at it you feel stuck in time this little preserves the history the place when you go there the atmosphere is amazing its like you are in afairy tale that one gets to see in movies. I felt like i was in a movie and those strange art effecta can be found at the tzaneen museum where the culture of the Tsonga and Pedi people are potrayed including the dynasty of the Modjadji queens" THE RAIN MAKING QUEENS". The view of the dam and that is us with ms heidi we were playing aprank on her cause she felt tired after a very long journey to Haenertsburg and we stopped she decide to take a nap and we being very naughty took pictures of to show her how she looks when she i s sleeping that was very funny cause she caught us.

Well this is how i look when i am not wearing my working clothes, the reason why i am showing you this picture is that people have a perception that when you are working in the bush, you can't look good and my friends have been making fun of me, they say that the bush has messed me up and i will admit that i have been neglecting myself but i can't help it cause i work too hard. I am a workaholic and those who don't know me think that i am a spoiled snob but iam not, fortunately i dont have i big ego.

Well i would like to say to everyone if you feel that something is wrong with you, make sure that you see the doctor asap because you will never know what it might be and i found out the hard, cause i had a flu and i took it lightly till i could not get up, then i knew something was wrong i was seriously sick, luckly i did something in time and i almost ate a whole back of oranges which helped me get back on my feet.NB I haven't forgoten my promise to you that i am going to do something life changing so keep watching this space.

Lifes' Lessons

U never realised how far off i have been, OK! i Will spare you the long speech and get to the point. I have lost focus on what i want and i feel dat the passion that i have for life has taken a bit of a knock and that i needed someone to remind of what drives me as a person and i can assure that there is a lot of things that drive me. i remember when i was an early teen i used to draw, paint, design. I could do so much and now i feel like a have aged sooner than i thought and i am only 23. Mr Pearce reminded me of something which i have forgotten and that is i am young and have so much to offer and i should work very had and that is what i am planning to do i have given myself a challenge which i have to complete on the 25 September 2009. I will let you in on the details once i have completed my plan, so watch this space. Pls go out there and live your dream ta!!!.

A joke for the week!!!!!

A boy came to Sondela with his parents for the holidays, so he asked his mother for money to buy sweets and she gave him the money he came back and asked for money to buy an ice cream then she gave him, later he came back and asked for more money to go for a game drive and the mother said do you think that money grows on trees' and the boy responded by saying then why do banks have branches!!!

So parents when you ask your kids want to go for a game drive let them know that they won't find money on tree branches

I have discovered that i have blood of queens and kings running through my veins and i feel they led me to this place to finally discover who i am. It all astarted with the Bela-Bela tour and now i feel that i can finally honour my ancestors.I never realised that a represented many nations becaause i have blood of many nations running through my veins, which is a blessing because i get to see a part of myself in the faces i see when i do tours.

All my life i struggled with my i dentity , i remember when i had to fill in forms of which ethnic group i belonged to, that was difficult and even when the teachers at class asked me what my name meant i always had to guess what my name meant and i used to guess that it meant peace and i was right. This dicovery was lead by a grave of a child named Salomina at the old Bela-Bela cemetary. When i saw the name Salomina, i asked myself many questions that no one could answer. I thought to myself maybe my name was mispelled and it was because it has an h at the end, which its not sopposed to. That made me curious and i started searching for answers, because one thing about being a guide you have to know where you come from before you tell people about other peoples culture.

i dicovered a whole new universe when it came to my name, i mean there is an island with my name, a municipality and marathon.This dicovery was lead by a grave of a child named Salomina at the old Bela-Bela cemetary

THE GREAT BATTLE OF SALAMIS

480 B.C.

480 B.C. The Persians in their conquest to conquer all of Europe had taken part of eastern Greece. After the Battle of Thermopylae where Leonidas and 300 Spartan soldiers died courageously defending their ideals and their country the Persian fleet sailed to the Saronic Gulf and the Greek fleet sailed to Salamis.

The Persians anchored at Faliro Bay where their King Xerxes ordered halve of the fleet to sail to Corinth and the other halve to Attica and Elefsina.

200 Egyptian Trieris sailed to the Megara Bay to block the way of the Greek Fleet and the same time the Persian Army landed in Attica and Psitalia Island, (a small Island near Salamis) Xerxes ordered his servants to place his throne on a hill which looks over Salamis bay so he can watch the battle the hill is called Egaleo.

i dicovered so much that it would take days.basically my name is a greek name, yhey cut it and say salamis so if you call me salamis i won't be offended.When i discoverede this i had great feeling, because this contributed to my fascination with hitory, i wanted to be a historian when i was i child, so i am living part of that dream.I made a dicovery in my own life and i realised that every human being is a living story, so go out there and discover WHO YOU ARE !!!!!!!

This weekend we had a cycling marathon at Sondela which was quite fun, it was a very interesting experiance because i have never been a part of such an event and i think Sondela did a great job, the guests enjoyed themselves, it would have been nice to see mr meyer in the race but maybe next time and hopefully i get the chance to see the one that is going to take place next year

I have learned lot till now, even though i am still young but i have learned how to have limitations, when to let go but the most important thing i have learned is human nature, every human being is unique and you have to treat a person according their character, but the greatest lesson i have learned is love rules us all and you need to have love and understanding. My mother is still over protective of me even at this stage, i used to find that to be silly but i realised is because she cares and loves me and it felt wonderful when she said happy birthday my angel, you are still my baby girl.

You can have have it all but as long as you dont have the peolple who love you close to you life has less meaning even if you are rich but for me richness is the love and support i get from them even if everyone thinks i suck to the i am the best, even if people make fun of mt height or call me a "NEVER MIND" it does not matter.So i thank God for keeping me on this earth for this long cause many don't get the chance to reach this age.

The place of safety " Polokwane"

We went on a Polokwane tour which was fun .
we saw and experianced various things such as historical art
effects and how people use the past things in the present.
Our first stop was Bakone malapa which is an open air museum
which exhibit historical art effects of the Bakone people
and how they lived and their culture.I felt like i was thrown back in time when i was wearing the animal skins, it was a fun experiance

The death of an Icon

Micheal shaped world history with his voice and talent, his briliance is unmached he influenced our lives in many ways that no one can.He will be remembered for his white socks,gloves and hat mostly his dance moves and scandals but without a shadow of a doubt he is a Legend and i woould like to say rest in peace. Being a youth

It was a fine day we were all smiles and laughs,cause we were all looking foward to the tour.I had the time of my life.I learned alot on this tour not only about the Bel-Bela town but myself as well and i am sure you wondering what,i learned something i will never forget.BUT FIRST THING FIRST.

We are on our way to Bela-Bela Tourism and parks usinng the R516 road the view was amazing as you can see, we were approaching the Silos' We arrived at th Tourism and Parks offices where we were welcomed with a smile.This is the place where you receive information regarding accommodation, places of interest and things to do and general information about Bela-Bela and limpopo, you will receive brochures , maps etc , so if you ever come to Bela-Bela make a quick stop there you won't regret it!!!!
